"Each of these cultural groups (family, sporting, religious, political) is characterized by shared beliefs (norms) developed over a long period of time based on an agreed set of values, which are communicated via a common language and made visible through the behaviors of the group.... "
What is this? This is what the book I'm currently reading says about culture. So if you don't speak the language of the culture you are in, it's difficult to learn the culture and if you understand the culture it might be easier to learn the language.
As a non-native English speaker and as an immigrant to Australia, I realize everyday this society is as closed as it seems very open. I'm not talking about minority group or discrimination. It's difficult to explain what it means - although I said so. Life is much more individual here. I think that explains why online activities become very popular? Yesterday I deleted my Facebook account. I used to be online very often when I was in Seoul but we also meet up outside more often than chatting up online! Well, one day in the future.. we might want to go back to those good old days?? Errr... not sure..
